PIERRE-GILLES DE GENNES INTERDISCIPLINARY PHD PROGRAM 2010

The Foundation Pierre-Gilles de Gennes supports the training of 2 selected non-French students in 2010.

This support covers all areas of interdisciplinary research dedicated to Life Sciences within the Foundation laboratory network.

The three-year PhD program (with possible one year extension, including a Pre-PhD program), is open to highly talented and motivated students, irrespective of their original disciplines.

Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (Foundation for Basic Research in Medicine) PhD Fellowships are to promote basic research in biomedicine by providing the best young, up-and-coming scientists with comprehensive support during their PhD phase.

PhD Fellowships are awarded to outstanding young scientists (max. age: 27 years) who wish to pursue an ambitious PhD project of approximately 3 years in basic biomedical research in an internationally leading laboratory. For further details please refer to "Who can apply?". The peer-review-based selection process is highly competitive. Applicants should therefore be outstanding in all three selection criteria.

Open to European citizens working in Europe or overseas, and to non-European citizens pursuing their PhD project in Europe.

The fellowship comprises a competitive monthly stipend which is initially granted for 2 years and which can be extended for up to another 12 months. Participation at international scientific conferences is also supported. In addition, fellowship holders are offered personal support, seminars to discuss their projects, communication training and alumni meetings, and thus can become part of a worldwide network. Timing and selection

Acteur de la formation des chercheurs, le CNRS offre un contingent de contrats de doctorant à ceux qui désirent acquérir, à l'issue d'un troisième cycle d'étude, une formation complémentaire par la recherche.
Cette formation par la recherche doit mener à l'obtention d'une thèse.
Les bénéficiaires de ces contrats peuvent être accueillis chaque année, selon le rythme de l'année universitaire, dans les laboratoires et formations de recherche du CNRS ou associés au CNRS, répartis sur l'ensemble du territoire national.
Ces contrats sont d'une durée de trois ans, conditionnés chaque année par la réinscription en école doctorale.
Le montant de la rémunération est de 1757 euros brut mensuel. Si le doctorant se voit confier, en plus de son activité de recherche doctorale, une activité complémentaire (de l'enseignement par exemple) le montant de la rémunération sera porté à 2 095,08 € brut mensuel.

Les conditions à remplir :
- être titulaire d'un master, ou équivalent permettant une inscription en école doctorale ;
- ne pas avoir déjà commencé sa thèse ;
- éventuellement disposer d'un partenaire s'engageant à cofinancer le recrutement (entreprise, régions, autres organismes...). Les sujets de recherche sont alors choisis en concertation avec le CNRS, une entreprise et une région donnée ;
- aucune condition de nationalité n'est exigée.

Comment poser sa candidature :
1 - La liste des offres est consultable sur le site dédié du CNRS : https://www2.cnrs.fr/DRH/doctorants-10/
2 - Les candidats ont jusqu'au 30 avril 2010 pour prendre contact avec les laboratoires mentionnés pour l'accueil d'un doctorant et leur adresser le dossier de candidature (pdf ).
2bis - Les candidats doivent se renseigner sur la nécessité de poser également leur candidature auprès de l'école doctorale de rattachement du laboratoire d'accueil visé.
3 - L'école doctorale, en lien avec le directeur du laboratoire, sélectionnera un candidat.
4 - Le service des ressources humaines dont dépend le laboratoire mettra en œuvre le contrat d'engagement.

Les doctorants prennent en principe leurs fonctions le 1er octobre 2010.

Recrutement de personnes handicapées

Pour la troisième année consécutive, le CNRS donne la possibilité à dix étudiants handicapés de bénéficier de contrats de doctorant et d'accéder plus facilement à la formation par la recherche. Ces contrats sont entièrement financés par l'établissement dans le cadre de sa politique nationale handicap et de son partenariat avec le FIPHFP (fonds pour l'insertion des personnes handicapées dans la fonction publique).

Les candidats présentant un handicap ont la possibilité - en plus de celle de postuler sur toute offre de la campagne - de se porter candidat sur l'un des 10 postes qui leur sont réservés. A compter du 21 avril 2010 et jusqu'au 30 septembre 2010, Les candidats intéressés peuvent postuler directement auprès des laboratoires du CNRS référencés par les instituts dans la rubrique «Accueil personnes handicapées», en lien avec l'école doctorale de rattachement du laboratoire d'accueil visé. Les candidats intéressés postulent avec un projet de recherche de leur choix dans la limite des thèmes scientifiques de l'unité (dossier de candidature téléchargeable sur le site).

Les conditions à remplir et de rémunération sont celles indiquées dans les rubriques ci-dessus. Le service des ressources humaines dont dépend le laboratoire met en œuvre le contrat d'engagement en lien avec l'école doctorale et le directeur de laboratoire. La prise de fonction est prévue le 1er octobre 2010.

Young scientists Selection 2010
with the FdV PhD program

The "early stage scientist' contract" (contrat jeune scientifique, CJS) is proposed by INRA (National Agricultural Research Institute) to those who wish to undertake a PhD and develop a career linked to agricultural or finalized research. The contract lasts for maximum 5 years and combines 3 years PhD with two years of post-doc.

The PhD projects have been proposed by a couple of researchers, at least one from INRA, from different disciplines. They have been short listed by the direction of the institute. The topics proposed are wide enough to be discussed and reshaped by the candidates.

Candidates shall interact with the scientist in charge of the project before applying to FdV graduate school competition. The laureates will be selected based on the evaluation undertaken by the international expert committee of FdV.

Each CJS PhD will be followed by the PhD committee. The committee will meet once a year and evaluate both scientific and training progresses. International experts from various disciplines will compose the committee, which will count at least one biologist and one mathematician, or physicist, chemist or computer scientist.

After the PhD viva, the continuation of the contract will be decided by the direction of INRA, based on the results of the PhD and on the quality of the post-doc project. This later will have to be undertaken in a laboratory different from the one where the PhD was undertaken and preferably in a foreign country.

The salary (gross amount, based on the rates of October 2009) will be 2055€ during the PhD and 2373€ during the post-doc period, plus an annual allowance of 791€.


In 2010, 5 PhD subjects have been selected by INRA, CJS contracts will be attributed to the two best candidates ranked by the PhD program council :

1. Biogenesis and dynamics of lipid bodies
2. Modelling the topology of a host-parasite interaction network with statistical models for heterogeneous random graphs
3. Bacteriophages biodiversity
4. Theoretical analyses of the demographic and evolutionary consequences of sex determination mechanisms in host-parasitoid | systems
5. Functional study of the bovine rumen by a metagenomic approach

AXA Research Fund campaign for Doctoral grants in 2010

The AXA Research Fund supports scientists and institutions of excellence worldwide, where research is linked to life, societal and environmental risks.

Procedure : only those institutions referenced by the AXA Research Fund may present applicants for
funding. The AXA Fund does not accept any unsolicited applications from individual students.
The Paris descartes University will submit 2 applications for all its doctoral schools (Frontières du Vivant being one of them).

Bourse doctorale CIFRE (Conventions Industrielles de Formation par la Recherche) de l'Agence nationale de la recherche technique « ANRT »

Depuis 25 ans, le dispositif CIFRE (conventions industrielles de formation par la recherche) subventionne toute entreprise de droit français qui embauche un doctorant pour le placer au cœur d'une collaboration de recherche avec un laboratoire public. Les travaux aboutiront à la soutenance d'une thèse en trois ans.

Les CIFRE sont intégralement financées par le ministère de l'Enseignement supérieur et de la Recherche qui en a confié la mise en œuvre à l'ANRT.

Les conventions CIFRE associent autour d'un projet de recherche, qui conduira à une soutenance de thèse de doctorat, trois partenaires : une entreprise, un jeune diplômé, un laboratoire.

La soummission se fait en deux temps :

1.Tout d'abord soumission du dossier projet via un formulaire en ligne :

+ version originale "papier" envoyer par courrier au Cancéropôle avant le 22 février 2010.

2. Pour les projets pré-sélectionnés, des candidats seront proposés via un formulaire en ligne jusqu'au 14 juin 2010 minuit et version original "papier" par courrier au Cancéropôle 18 juin 2010.

Appel à projets 2009/2010

Chaque année, la Fondation Nestlé France attribue 3 bourses scientifiques dotées de 20.000 euros chacune à de jeunes chercheurs dont les projets portent sur l'alimentation dans ses dimensions biologiques, sociales ou humaines. L'objectif de ces bourses est de soutenir des candidats en fin de thèse ou de leur permettre d'avoir une expérience de recherche post-doctorale.

La cloture de l'appel à candidatures est fixée au 15 novembre 2009.
